5 Essential Spring/Summer Interior Trends of 2016

With interior design trends changing as often as fashion, it is essential to stay ahead of the curve if you want to achieve a modern, stylish home.

Keeping up to date with the latest interior design styles may seem time-consuming, but it will keep your home feeling fresh and updated, meaning you’ll never get bored of the same four walls.

Here are five trends that are sending shockwaves through the interior design world this summer.

  1. Botanical

The whole aim for the botanical theme is to bring the outdoors in. We’re talking statement, leafy motifs, cacti and ferns, and tropical colours. When it comes to botanical, the bolder the better. To easily achieve this look, invest in some earthy cushions for the sofa and some cheap and cheerful cacti from your local gardening store.

2. Rattan

The theme of global-inspired trends this summer continues with the rattan revival. We’d recommend introducing rattan on your porch in the form of a chair, lamp shade or storage baskets. This natural-looking furniture sits well against white walls for a beachy, outdoorsy feel.

  1. Retro Orange

Haven’t you heard? The 70s is back with a bang. Not only in fashion but interior design, too. And what’s more 70s than a pop of bright orange in your home? Try adding simple accessories, such as towels or bedding, or go big and bold with retro orange wallpaper or furniture.

  1. Marble

Marble became an en vogue material in late 2015 and has since exploded. But it isn’t just marble surfaces that have seen a revival, this sleek texture has been cropping up in more unusual places, such as bedside tables, chairs and wallpaper. The smallest touch of marble can give any room an instant touch of luxury, so what are you waiting for?

  1. Warm Metals

It’s fair to say that just about everybody is currently enthralled in a deep love affair with copper. Whether it’s fruit bowls, kitchenware or candle holders, we don’t care. This trend is still going strong in S/S16 so now you’ve got the perfect excuse to keep adding copper to your shopping cart.

#ChristyChristmas: Time to… Reflect on our Blogging Highlights of 2015

2015 has been a great year for Christy. We have worked with some talented bloggers who have mentioned us in creative and captivating posts that we have loved.

We’ve listed a selection of fantastic blogs that have kindly written about Christy this year. From interior design blogs to lifestyle blogs, we’ve proudly featured on a range of amazing websites that keep us coming back for more.

Take a look at our list of beautiful blog posts featuring Christy below:

The Simply Luxurious Life

Back in April, Shannon from The Simply Luxurious life featured us in a dedicated blog post all about her love of our luxury bed linens. Not only did Shannon sign our praises, but she also gave her readers some interesting facts about the heritage of Christy. To add to her post, she even told us the secret to getting a good night’s sleep. What more could we possibly need?

Coco and Mingo

This stunning blog post from Jessica over at Coco and Mingo certainly caught our attention in May. Jessica updated readers on her spring and summer bedroom whilst providing a selection of amazingly crisp images of Christy lines proudly displayed on her bed. To remind yourself of this stunning Coco and Mingo post, head over to the blog here.

Little Miss Momma

Lifestyle blogger, Ashley recently took her readers on the journey of renovating her master bedroom. Ashley’s before and after pictures captivated us here at Christy. We couldn’t help but admire just how amazing the transformation looks, particularly the colourful new bed that takes centre stage.

Anna E. Lee Interior Design

In November, Anna from Anna E. Lee Interior Design updated her bedroom and chose brand new bedding from Christy. We were more than flattered when Anna explained her feelings about our linens. “The combination of linen and cotton, provides this bedding set with the most exquisite texture – creating a true sense of luxury.” Now we’re just blushing.

2015 has been a great year for working with amazing bloggers, most of which we didn’t get a chance to mention here. If you mentioned Christy in your blog this year – thank you.

We can’t wait to see what 2016 brings to our door!

The best US spots for fall colors

The stunning colors of the US fall are globally renowned, but where are the best spots across the nation to catch a glimpse of the leaves as they move from green to rusty red, eye catching orange and sunny yellow?

Vermont

Probably the best known spot in the US, the changing of the colours is taken very seriously in Vermont – you’ll find online sites where you can check by the hour for the state of the state’s trees, and there are all kinds of fall festivals to enjoy. Of course this shouldn’t be a surprise – Vermont is three quarters forest, and is famous the world over for its stunning natural beauty and landscape.

Top spots to view the changing of the colors include Burlington, and the Lake Champlain Islands. Why not visit South Hero, the island’s largest town and just 20 minutes drive away from Burlington – if you’re feeling energetic there are plenty of bike rides you can do on the islands that allow you to take in both the fresh air and the stunning shades of the trees.

Mohawk Trail, Massachusetts

The winding Mohawk Trail travels through the Berkshire Mountains, with plenty of picturesque towns along the way. If you are an outdoors enthusiast looking for a thrilling activity to enjoy, then you certainly need to stop off at Charlemont, known for its zip lines, alpine skiing, white water rafting, mountain biking and hiking. Williamstown offers the classic views of this part of the country, with church spires backed by snowy mountains and stunning forests, and also has a variety of tourist attractions.

 The Adirondacks, upstate New York

This part of New York is dotted with pick-your-own apple orchards, which look particularly appealing during the changing of the colors. If you are searching for serenity on your fall trip, book a stay on the shores of Upper Saranac lake, which has a number of high end guest houses and lodges on its banks.

Great Smoky Mountains, North Carolina and Tennessee

This mountainous area is a fantastic place to witness different stages of the fall color change – trees at the highest elevation, including American beeches and birches, will turn first, followed by scarlet oaks, sugar maples, sweetgums and dogwoods. Visit from mid September to the middle of October to see the transition in action.

House Envy – The Best Houses of the Small and Silver Screen

One of the best things about curling up with a blanket and your favourite TV show or movie is the chance to see some truly stunning houses, from the imposing Grayson Manor in Revenge to the glitz and glam of the Lyon family mansion in Empire, not to mention the country elegance of the homes in hit show Nashville.

Here are snapshots of some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring houses on TV – which is your favourite?

Santa Barbara Spanish ranch, It’s Complicated

Although this romantic comedy, starring Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin as a divorced couple who begin an affair years after separating, received average reviews, the home that Streep’s character Jane lives in is certainly deserving of a five star rating.

Combining rustic bright colours, traditional materials and modern touches, the Spanish ranch is a gorgeous home. It has a warm and inviting feel but remains chic – the best houses are always those that combine practicality with elegance.

The Grayson manor, Revenge

Home to the warring Graysons, this manor is everything you would expect from the home of a successful business mogul and his scheming wife. Filmed partly on a sound stage and partly in real-life homes, the manor is certainly imposing, but retains a homely feel due to comfortable squashy sofas, plenty of soft furnishings, fresh flowers and thoughtfully placed lamps and candles.

Rayna James’s house, Nashville

Rayna’s impressive home is big on rustic touches, such as a lot of exposed brick and wood, and retains a homely feel, despite its size, thanks to the use of classic style furniture rather than modern pieces.

One of its best features is an incredible wraparound porch with an eaved wood ceiling.

Decorating with colour

Decorating with colour

While subtle and gentle shades are a firm favourite for creating a classy and timeless look for your home, there is nothing wrong with adding a splash of colour that will not only brighten your property’s interior, but also create a positive atmosphere.

When it comes to adding a flash of colour to your bathroom or bedroom, a less is more approach does not always apply. It’s time to be fearless and fun with your decorating in these two rooms – vibrant shades can totally transform the look of a room, and are great for creating an upbeat atmosphere during the often drab winter months.

Brighten up your boudoir

While it is true that the bedroom should always be a calm and relaxing environment, why not think about adding a splash of colour that creates a more lively atmosphere?

As the nights grow longer in the lead-up to winter, why not bring summer indoors with a lick of pale yellow paint, or a soft lilac? If you prefer darker hues, deep purples or reds are firm favourites for creating a dramatic setting that is best paired with luxurious materials and bold accessories.

Creating a statement wall is another great way to make transform your bedroom. Whether you opt to decorate using bright wallpaper, or simply add a new shade, you are guaranteed maximum impact with minimal effort.

Deciding which colours will match your signature style can also be tricky, but there are plenty of options to choose from, whether you’re going for a vintage throwback scheme or something modern.

Soft purples, greys and limes are a sure fire way to create a retro-inspired bedroom – accessorise with vintage mirrors, glassware on the dressing table and floral patterns to get a really authentic look. On the other hand, bold colours, minimal accessories and leather furniture is a great way of achieving that hotel-esque modern look.

Adding bold prints and busy patterns that are rich in reds, yellows and royal blues will help to transform your room into a Moroccan hideaway, while deep blues combined with lighter shades of blue, green and cream will help you to create a seaside-inspired haven.

Bathroom inspiration

As the bathroom is usually one of the smallest rooms in the house, it can be more difficult to get creative with your interior design choices in this area. Adding bright shades on the walls could actually make the room look smaller, so it’s all about using the right accessories to add a splash of colour.

Before starting to redesign your bathroom, it’s important to consider whether you are looking to create an environment that matches, or whether colour-blocking is more your style of choice.

Bright pinks, yellows, oranges, reds and blues are a must-have for any colour-blocked space, and you don’t always have to repaint to achieve this look – why not keep walls neutral but accessorise with vibrantly coloured accessories, from towels to toothbrush holders?
